November – The month of our Annual Print Competition. Get your prints ready to enter! Participate and get feedback from the judges on what you can do to improve your prints (if anything) and then enter in the Mid-East States Print Competition at the PPO Convention next March. Let’s see each of us get at least one Merit next spring!! Wouldn’t that be SUPER!
Our judges this year are not only extremely qualified, they are excellent teachers – they share their thoughts very constructively with practical suggestions you can implement to improve your submissions. They are Doug Boylan, Mark Garber and Rich Newel.The Print Competition rules follow:
PRINT COMPETITION RULES
CATEGORIES: Portrait, Wedding, Illustrative, Commercial, and CDAlbum.
1st, 2nd & 3rd place will be awarded in each category, with verbal judging critiques given to each entry.
The Judges will also present an award for the highest scoring FIRST TIME ENTRANT and 3 Judges Choice Awards.
SUBMISSION CRITERIA:
Prints:
-Print entries must be permanently mounted on standard mount board material. No glass,stretcher frames, canvas or frames allowed.
-Submission form must be taped to the back of each entry form.
-Images of any shape and size are allowed but must be mounted on 16×20 mount board.
-Mount board thickness should be 1/8 to 3/8 inch think, not to exceed 3/8 inch.
-Exception: PPA Master of Photography Degree holders may submit images of any shape and size on a mount board with a minimum of 80 sq. inches, not to exceed a maximum of 480 square inches, with the largest dimension not to exceed 24 inches.
-The entry must have been captured and created by the entrant.
-The entrants name shall not appear anywhere on the face of the entry.
-There is no limit to the amount of entries submitted, cost per entry is $5.00 each
-Entries must be submitted by current PPSO members only.
-No two entries shall be of the same subject.
-Entries previously merited at any PPA competition shall not be eligible.
CD Album Entries:
-Albums may be submitted at a cost of $5.00 each.
-Use one separate CD for each album entry.
-Images are to be .jpegs sized to 2560×1600 @ 300 dpi., sRGB color space.
-Begin the CD Album with a blank page numbered 01.
-Number the following pages consecutively.
-Write your name and the category entered on the CD and the entry form.
-Images in the album must be the work of the entrant.
-If the album is a combination of multi-makers it must be so noted.
-Any studio or identification of the album must not appear in the presentation.
Photographer of the year will be the photographer with the three highest scoring images (print score) overall.
